Session Three – ‘A Garden of Eternal Springtime’ Sandro Botticelli’s La Primavera, 1482
A beautifully rich tapestry of plants and mythological denizens celebrating an arranged Medicean marriage, this stunning large-scale painting is one of the jewels in the crown of the Uffizi gallery in Florence. We will explore both the classical and contemporary layers to this pagan masterpiece and assess how it might be considered a secular Annunciation painting.
